2. On 28th of August Melbourne hit 21 degrees which means the winter is over and long waited spring is here. Officially the spring starts on 1st of September. I just love it. No more heating electric blankets, lower electricity and gas bills. Time to find the shorts and skirts out of the draws and live more outside than inside the rooms.

3.
Report from work at Crown Vip Mahogany Room:
* Yesterday I served Dom Pérignon Brut Vintage, one of the world's most famous champagne, 360 dollars a bottle. Luckily my performance was immaculate:)!
* Older man from Greece: I've travelled a lot and seen even more but never in my life have I seen hair done this way. It is fabulous!
* I ended up having great discussions with older couples (who had been together 39-49 years).
They all love travelling and they love casinos. When I asked what is the secret of long lasting marriage one of the couples told that they just love each other but they still fight, though they call them disagreements.
The other couple was very interesting - the man was from Hungary and the woman (Rita) from Estonia! It was such a surprise. She had lived in Australia since she was a kid, over 50 years now but still talked perfect Estonian. Anyway, this man told me that the secret for being together 49 years is TO TAKE AND TO GIVE. The man, called Antal, said to me that if u can avoid fighting, do it! Just say to each other that you will talk about it the next day and then later on while both of you have calmed down it's better to start talking about it. And sometimes later on you forget about it. He also mentioned that a big cuddle, good sex and a drink together helps the couple to overcome the obstacles. By the way, he was eager to marry me with his son, who lives in Budapest and is English teacher. He persuaded me to write down his name and check him up on Facebook. It didn't help I told I was in a good relationship. Funny he was. I sure did enjoy those conversations.

Estonian Social Club night and Lebanese food @ Tiba's Lebanese Restaurant

I have decided that we should visit many different country's restaurants and try out their cuisine. Melbourne is just so colorful and full of diversities and cultures and restaurants. A week ago on Friday night just before Estonian Social Club we went to the Tiba's Lebanese Restaurant on Sydney Road. It is very popular place because the prices are cheap and the food supposedly delicious. Our housemates have been there several times and it was finally time for me to try it out as well. We had to wait for a free table about 15 minutes but I was determined to eat there so we waited.
Tiba’s restaurant was established in 1983 by Hassan (father) and Mohamed (son). Since 2000 the restaurant is run and managed by three brothers Hassan, Salem & Mohamed. Their mother Hoda continues to lead the way and has taught the brothers well.Lebanese restaurant offers lot's of grilled meat, kebab and fresh salads with hommus and bread. We both ordered Shish Kafta Serve ($14.80 each) which were lamb skewers and included Tabouli salad, garden salad, rice, pickled turnip (pink colored and funny tasted), hommus and yoghurt and cucumber dip. It was not anything remarkable but good value for the money.

After the dinner, stomachs full and happy, we went to the Social Club at Estonian House. Social Club happens once a month every third Friday and brings along Estonians living in Melbourne. I just love going there and meeting people from my home country, talk in Estonian and drink Estonian ciders. Bar prices are really cheap, as in Estonia:). This time there was an Estonian guy who runs the Estonian news program for SBS news in Australia. David was interviewed and asked about his experience in Estonian Social Club nights and why he likes them even he can't understand Estonian. I got a chance for a few words as well. Great night as always. The SBS Radio broadcast can be heard here.

Matthew Perger & World Barista Championships 2013 in Melbourne

This year's World Barista Championship was held in Melbourne on 22-26 May 2013 in conjunction with the Melbourne International Coffee Expo. Matthew Perger from Australia (residing in Melbourne) won the 2nd place. He has been a barista for 7 years now and definitely knows what he's doing. I was just watching the video from youtube about his performance at WBC and he's amazing. I have been thinking to take up barista course for a long time already and while living in Melbourne (the real coffee paradise) I should most definitely do it.
On my good days at work I can actually make pretty smooth and nice milk and pour a leaf or an heart to my latte but I realize I am far away of knowledge and technique.

Rice Queen, oriental diner & bar at Brunswick Street in Fitzroy

On Thursday night we decided to explore the coolest part of the city meaning the Fitzroy area in Brunswick. We just wanted to try out some place we haven't been to and started walking along the Brunswick Street to step into something that would catch our eyes. After a couple of minutes we found it - Rice Queen. The name sounded appealing and a little peak inside made it clear it was worth to visit. I really adored all the little details in that bar and diner, it was very cozy with dim lights and kitsch design elements from Asia. They are specialized on Asian kitchen and offer share plates which are common to Asia.
We had Braised Singapore style squid and prawns with chilly, crispy egg noodles and shiso leaf and Pad thai noodles, with chicken, egg, peanuts, bean shoots and spring onion. They both tasted good. For a drink we had Tall Tales Pinot Noir 2010 from Yarra Valley, Victoria which was  really nice and Kelly Brothers Apple Cider. I definitely would love to go back there for the atmosphere and coziness.

Being celebrity waitress at MasterChef Australia

On 1st of May I had a great opportunity to take part in filming the episode of MasterChef, which is one of the most popular cooking shows in Australia. It took place in one of the most extravagant building in Melbourne at Ormond College at Melbourne University which is like Harry Potter style castle and it feels like being at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. MasterChef Australia's new season is filmed in Australia’s culinary capital of Melbourne with some of the best amateur cooks from across the country who are are competing with each other and taking up different kinds of challenges.
The attendants were divided into two teams, red team and blue team, and they had to prepare a banquet dinner for seventy college students using ingredients that represent the Seven Deadly Sins. The losing team will be heading into the elimination challenge. It was such a great opportunity to be in that college and see all of this happen. There were around fifteen waitresses from my agency and our duty was to carry three dish plates each with all the contestants to the dining hall and place them in a row to the dining table in front of the students. After two trials it was all filmed and we had to walk around pouring water for the students who could be the judges and eat the sins. Unfortunately only some of the waiters are just about shown in the program and all the focus is on the two competing teams. Nevertheless I sure feel lucky to have had such an opportunity to attend the set of the world famous cooking show. The episode I attended is Masterchef 2013 Series 5 Episode 27.

Feeling spoilt and loved:)

Beebidušš aka baby shower

On Sunday I was invited to a baby shower at one of Estonian friend who is living in Melbourne. She is due to give birth in one and a half months. In Australia, as well as probably in many other countries around the world, it's a tradition to hold a welcoming party for the newcomer. It's thrown before the baby is born and the idea is to gather together and celebrate the recent birth of the baby. I think it is a nice tradition. In Estonia we have something similar called katsikud which is a celebration for the newborn after the baby is born. Everybody comes along to the baby shower with little presents and sometimes there are played special games. New to become mother had prepared us all good Estonian style snacks, authentic potato salad as well as lovely muffins and cakes. It sure was nice to catch up with everyone and talk Estonian.
